Del Taco Reflects on Recent Successes, Including Sales of 2 Million Beyond Meat Tacos

Beyond Meat: 2 million meatless tacos sold in 2 months

Del Taco has gone beyond meat. Following the testing of Beyond Meat tacos in late 2018, Del Taco was proud to announce its partnership with the launch of Beyond Tacos in April, using the company’s plant-based protein. With this launch, Del Taco became the first national Mexican fast food chain to add a 100% plant-based protein option to its menu. This partnership has amounted to one of the most successful launches in Del Taco’s history – to be specific, roughly two million Beyond Tacos and Beyond Avocado Tacos have been sold in two months alone this year.

In fact, customer reception has been so enthusiastic that the franchise is expanding the Beyond product line into burritos, offering the Beyond 8 Layer Burrito and the Epic Beyond Cali Burrito as tasty alternatives.

“The enthusiasm shown by our fans during the first weeks of our Beyond Meat offerings was undeniable,” says John Cappasola, President and Chief Executive Officer of Del Taco. “To that end, we wanted to reward the passion being shown across social media and in our restaurants by utilizing our uniquely seasoned Beyond Meat recipe in two new protein-packed burritos.”

Cappasola also touches upon the impact of the products in Del Taco’s fiscal second quarter 2019 highlights.

“These products accentuate our QSR plus brand positioning and have been very well received by our guests as ‘Fresh Faves’ mixed at nearly 5% throughout the quarter while the Beyond Tacos mixed at over 6% since their system-wide launch on April 25th,” says Cappasola. “During the third quarter we expanded our Beyond product line to include the Beyond 8 Layer Burrito and the Epic Beyond Cali Burrito as we seek to capitalize on the popularity and versatility of this 100% plant-based protein.”

Del Taco expands in Georgia with Riverdale opening, first of 7 under agreement

Del Taco recently announced its 16th Georgia-based restaurant with seasoned operating team Mac Kamara and Jeff Fisher. Located in Riverdale, this is the franchise group’s first Del Taco restaurant to open under their agreement to bring seven locations across the south central area of Atlanta.
